How Can a Company’s Website Help You at the Job Interview

Job interview is often perceived as the culmination of the job searching process.  After writing a CV and applying for a job of your dream, you are finally invited for the personal interview. This part of employment procedure is of crucial importance, since this is most likely to be the time, when your potential employer is going to decide on whether to hire you or to continue hunting for the best candidate.  To help your job interviewer make positive decision on your candidacy, you will need to prepare yourself for the job interview. One of the good ways to do that is to read the web site of the company you are striving to work at.

During the job interview, be prepared to answer questions like the followings:

  • What do you find attractive about working at the Company?
  • What can you bring to the Company, if we hire you?
  • Why should we employ you?
  • Why do you want to work at the Company?
  • How do you comply with the Company’s values and objectives?

In order to answer such questions efficiently, you will need to know some basic information about the company, such as nature of its business, position on the market, key corporate values, achievements and future targets, etc. All such information can be easily found at the corporate web site. When a job seeker demonstrates a familiarity with the company, it means he or she is really interested in the job. He did something more than sending out his CVs to dozens of companies.

Reading the website before a job interview and using the information from it, while talking with the employer, is a good chance to show your loyalty to the company and true interest to the position. Furthermore, knowing what the company does can help you to fine tune your answers about the qualifications and experience to the requirements of the currently open position.

Another way to use information from the company’s web site is to prepare some questions to your interviewer. It is a common practice during the job interview to give a chance for an applicant to ask some questions about the company. Instead of asking some general questions, it would be good if you ask something really specific about the company. For example, you can ask about some particular key values of the company, mentioned at the web site, or enquire about the social programs available for the employers…
