At the most basic level, an interview is defined as a formal meeting in person, the key point of which is to assess one’s qualification for a particular job opening or position. To make such a formal meeting effective and successful in terms of employment, it is important to be prepared for employment interview and to follow some basic tips on how to behave during it.
- Prepare for the job interview in advance. Do some research on the company. Practise interviewing at home with your friend or family member.
- Get ready to support your strong points with evidence. Usually job posting contains a list of basic requirements. So you have to define which of your personal qualities and skills meet the job requirements and to prepare examples from your real life experience to support your strong points.
- Go to the interview alone (no friends or children;-).
- Be positive. Avoid negative statements, especially about your previous employers.
- Keep eye contact. Eye contact is important for proper communication during the job interview. Smile and be polite.
- Do not forget about body language. Do not cross your legs or lean back in the chair during the employment interview.
- Listen to the questions carefully and answer as directly as possible. If the question is unclear to you ask your interviewer to repeat it.
- Ask your questions. Demonstrate your interest in the company and the position you are applying for.
- Bring your CV to the employment interview.
Hopefully, the above mentioned tips will be of help for you during the job interview. Just remember that much depends on the first impression here, so get ready for the interview in advance, do not make it spontaneous if you want it to be successful. Furthermore, even if the employment interview was not much of success this time – make conclusions, learn from your mistakes and make use of your experience for future interviews.
